Class II boy returns bag with Rs 50,000, to be felicitated

A Class II boy set an example to his schoolmates by returning a bag containing Rs 50,000 cash that he found abandoned on roadside near the school at Chinnasemur village in Erode on Wednesday. The boy’s honesty has made his parents, who hardly earn to make both ends meet, feel proud of their son.
A student of Chinnasemur panchayat union middle school, Mohammed Yasin, 7, of Kanirowtherkulam Nanthavana Thottam area in the city, found the bag on Wednesday morning when he had gone to attend nature’s call. He immediately approached his class teacher V Jayanthi Bai, who took him to headmistress Yasmine.

“The bag was partially concealed amidst bushes on roadside. I took it to my class teacher as soon as I found it,” Yasin, whose elder brother Mohammed Mujamil, 13, is a Class VIII student of the same school, said.

Taken up by her student’s honesty, the headmistress didn’t waste any time to take him to district superintendent of police (SP) Sakthi Ganesan to hand him over the bag.

The headmistress narrated everything to the SP, who congratulated Mohammed Yasin and appreciated his exemplary character. The SP rewarded him Rs 1,000, but Yasin refused to accept it. Though the police officer increased the cash reward to Rs 2,500, the boy didn’t change his mind.

The SP subsequently issued uniforms, shoes and bags to Yasin and his elder brother. The SP said he would felicitate Mohammed Yasin on July 19 to appreciate his kind gesture.
