LUDHIANA: Police, late on Monday, arrested a farm worker for kidnapping a minor girl from Dheri village.
Vinod Kumar, a native of Sidhia village of Bihar, was arrested from Mullanpur Mandi in
Ludhiana district.
Sarwan Singh, father of six-year-old Kareena, told the police that four migrant workers, including Vinod, requested him to let them stay at his house on Sunday night. “I agreed as I knew two of them. Around 9am on Monday, my daughter was playing outside our house. She went missing after the migrant workers left.”
Sarwan Singh, an employee at a dairy shop, looked for his daughter everywhere, but to no avail. The family then informed the police.
“A few hours later, a man, who identified himself as Badanand and a friend of Vinod, called me up. He said my daughter was with Vinod and that they were in Mullanpur Mandi,” Sarwan Singh added.
Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector Jagir Singh said, “We raided a market in Mullanpur Mandi, rescued the girl and arrested Vinod. We are yet to ascertain if Badanand was with him.”
Vinod told during interrogation that he took the girl along with him for sightseeing. They went to Rajpura and other places. They could not return on Monday as they got late, Vinod added.
Meherban police have booked the accused under sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the
Indian Penal Code.
