City pounded by 125 mm rain in 24 hours

Vadodara: After a short break, the city received another round of heavy rain on Wednesday. The weather had been overcast from the morning but by 4pm, the skies opened up. Old City areas and some main roads in the western parts got waterlogged, creating long queues of vehicles.
Disaster management officials said the city received more than five inches of rain from 8pm on Tuesday to 8pm on Wednesday. Between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, the city got 39mm of rain.

The downpour left eight trees uprooted in various areas. By Tuesday evening, Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services (VFES) had got seven calls for fallen trees or collapsed walls.

According to fire department officials, trees near Raopura GPO, Dandiya Bazaar, EME Road in Fatehgunj, Kahar Mohalla in Navapura, Diwalipura and Matri Mandir Society in Gotri were uprooted. Two cars were damaged after a tree on EME Road fell on them. An autorickshaw and two motorcycles were damaged after a wall collapse in Tulsiwadi.
