Congress President Rahul Gandhi discussed "politics, films and society" with Tamil film director P A Ranjith and actor Kalaiyarasan when they called on him in his Delhi home.
"I met film director PA Ranjith, the man behind blockbuster films like Madras, Kabali and Kaala and actor Kalaiyarasan, in Delhi yesterday. We talked about politics, films and society. I enjoyed the interaction and look forward to continuing our dialogue," he said on Twitter.
Describing the meeting as important, Ranjith said the discussions with the Congress chief included caste and religious bias threatening the core of India's Constitution.
"IMP.meeting with @RahulGandhi abt (sic) politics & art. Discussed caste & religious bias threatening d (sic) core of our secular constitution," he said in a tweet.
Ranjith, who took a dig at the prevailing political situation in his latest venture, the Rajinikanth starrer "Kaala", added that he looked forward to the discussion "taking shape".
"A national leader engaging with ppl from all ideologies is very encouraging," he tweeted.
At the AICC briefing on whether any political meaning should be drawn from Gandhi's meeting with Ranjith, who is considered close to Rajnikanth, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi denied so.
"Any interpretation or any other media stories or any source based stories, we emphatically reject," she told reporters.
Ranjith made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy "Attakathi" before going on to make the political drama "Madras" and the Rajinikanth starrers "Kabali" and "Kaala". He interspersed the "Kaala" script with several Dalit symbolisms.
Kalaiyarasan is a Tamil actor who won laurels for his role in "Madras" and also acted in "Kabali".
