Anxiety gripped Dehradun and other parts of Uttarakhand on Tuesday as the news of the critical condition of the former Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari, now  admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Max Hospital Saket in Delhi, spread. Several organs of the 92- year- old leader have stopped functioning, the hospital sources said.

On learning about the condition of the veteran, Uttarakhand Chief Minister  Trivendra Singh Rawat cancelled all his appointments for Tuesday afternoon and air dashed to New Delhi.

On reaching Max hospital Saket, CM Rawat inquired about the health of Tiwari from the doctors and the family members present.

While interacting with wife of Tiwari, Ujjwala and son Rohit Shekhar, CM wished a speedy recovery for the ailing leader. The Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni was with the CM during the visit.

The nonagenarian politician who holds the unique distinction of holding the office of CM of two states (Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand) has been in the hospital since September last year after he suffered a brain stroke.

His health had turned very critical last week as his haemoglobin level dropped drastically and his kidneys stopped functioning.
