On illegalities over Amer Fort elephants

Humane Society International/India has claimed it has sent over 100 legal notices to the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) of Rajasthan in connection with illegalities surrounding elephants at Amer Fort.

‘Cutting of tusks’

“This includes, but is not limited to, illegal cutting of tusks of over 47 elephants, a practice which amounts to hunting and is illegal according to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972,” noted a release issued by the HSI/India.

The organisation has also sent legal notices to the CWW asking for cancellation of ownership certificates of elephants on the grounds of cruelty, negligence and absence of other required documents.

Ownership certificates

This includes ownership certificates given as late as 2017, more than 14 years after the last call was made to obtain a permit for owning elephants.

HSI/India has been campaigning to end elephant rides at Amer Fort .
