CHENNAI:
Congress president
Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took time off his busy schedule to have a lengthy meeting with Tamil film director
Pa Ranjith, who directed actor Rajinikanth’s last two films “Kabali” and “Kaala.” Both the movies are about the issues and rights of the oppressed classes and landless masses.
The meeting, which took place at Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi, lasted almost two hours.
Gandhi tweeted using his Twitter handle @RahulGandhi on Wednesday: “I met film director P A Ranjith, the man behind blockbuster films like Madras, Kabali and
Kaala, and actor Kalaiyarasan in Delhi yesterday. We talked about politics, films and society. I enjoyed the interaction and look forward to continuing our dialogue.”
Ranjith tweeted using his Twitter handle pa.ranjith @beemji: “IMP.meeting with @RahulGandhi about politics&art. Discussed caste&religious bias threatening the core of our secular constitution. Thanks for having me over sir. Looking forward for our discussion taking shape. A national leader engaging with people from all ideologies is very encouraging!”
The Congress president’s meeting with Ranjith, whose penchant to get the dalit voice heard on all fronts and in every opportunity is well known, comes after Gandhi’s meeting with Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the Davidian party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, in Delhi some time ago.
With political parties having already set their eyes on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, such meetings add significance, especially with the Congress continuing to focus on its inclusive growth model in politics, in the backdrop of BJP’s perceived divisive politics.
