FALL RIVER – A foreclosure auction at the Southway Plaza was canceled Wednesday.

Betty Quinn, with Sullivan and Sullivan Auctioneers of Sandwich, said the company was told to cancel by the lawyers hired by Starwood Mortgage Capital LLC.

Starwood issued a mortgage to CAJ Southway Plaza LLC on Sept. 10, 2013, that is secured by the plaza at 310 to 400 Rhode Island Ave.

Joanne Lucas of Seekonk owns the company, CAJ Southway Plaza.

The plaza is missing its major tenants, Benny’s and Job Lot. Benny’s closed. Job Lot moved across the street to a larger store in May.

Lucas did not return calls for comment, but did send notification of the cancellation of the auction on Wednesday.

In prior calls, Lucas and her real estate broker, Danny Waldman of Waldman Associates, said there is substantial interest in companies that want to lease the space vacated by Benny’s. The space once occupied by Job Lot remains under lease to that company.

The 23,000 square foot space once occupied by Benny’s is no longer listed as available on Waldman’s website.

CAJ Southway Plaza LLC paid $10.85 million for the 7.5 acre site with the buildings. The parcel does not include the Walgreen’s store that abuts the site.
