Following the murder of the dreaded gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi in Bagpat jail in Uttar Pradesh, police have issued an alert for the district jail at Roshanabad in view of the fact that Sunil Rathi gang was criminally active in Haridwar in the past.

Rathi had allegedly shot Bajrangi dead in Bagpat jail after an altercation had broken out on Monday. Rathi, himself  a notorious gangster, has been tagged to at least six murder cases. Apprehending  gang war following the murder of Bajrangi, the police have decided to depute quick response team during the time  the accused  are taken for court appearance.

ADG Law and order Ashok Kumar is learnt to have asked the local intelligence unit to be on alert. Besides, additional force would be deployed  when the hearing of the accused is held.

Notably, Rathi had been shifted to Bagpat jail from Haridwar last year. He had been arrested for the first time in 2000 from Shivpuri Colony in Haridwar by the SOG team and local police. Since then, he had been in jail. He had married during this period and a son was born. On September 12 2011, he had  allegedly killed the deputy Jailer Narendra Khampa outside Roorkee jail. Again, on August  5 2014, at least three persons had been killed in a gang war outside the Roorkee jail involving the aids of Rathi and those of his rival gang.

Meanwhile, one of the sharp shooters of Rathi gang, Vikki whose bail appeal was granted by court is yet to get one to take him out after depositing the bail guarantee.  He is a key accused of the murder of deputy jailer Khampa.

Deputy jailer Roshanabad jail Prem Singh Chauhan said, “No one has yet come forward to take Vikki out on bail so far. We have received the relevant  documents from the court, but he is still in jail for the want of a guarantor. We are all alert.”
