Cops on the street have become aware of the fact that they don’t have enough cash to pay workers involved in towing vehicles from non-parking areas. 

“We are working on it,” a police officer said when contacted by DTNext, admitting that there is a problem in hiring workers for towing vehicle. 

“Earlier we used to hire two or three workers in one area to push the two-wheelers into the lorry. They used to charge anything between Rs 20 and Rs 30 per vehicle. The police used to settle the workers’ dues with the cash collected from traffic offenders. 

Now, with fines being paid digitally, traffic policemen say that they can’t tow away vehicles because they don’t have money,” the officer added. 

Though the officers are happy about patronage for cashless transaction having steadily increased in the last two months from just 37 per cent people paying on the first day to 93 per cent till last week, they are working out a system by which the traffic enforcing officers can hire men to help tow-away activities.  

Police control room personnel are calling up and sending SMSes to defaulters. 

The city traffic police had brought in a system on May 10 by which traffic offenders could pay the fine on the spot using their credit card or debit card against the e-challan issued or online using other online methods including SBI website or QR code printed on the e-challan, Paytm and as well as at post offices and courts. 

The police had done away with the on the spot cash payment by bringing in the new system.
