Woman left severely injured in daylight burglary

Violent criminals left a woman with severe head injuries after assaulting her with a metal rod during a daylight burglary at her home in the Tulsi Vihar area of Haldwani on Tuesday. Reaching the home after the incident, her husband and neighbours took the woman to a private hospital where doctors have stated her condition to be critical. While the police are yet to catch the culprits who had killed a woman during a similar burglary in town about a month ago, the latest heist committed in broad daylight has raised further questions about the level of security and police work in town.

Mohan Singh Rautela and his wife Anita Rautela reside at Tulsi Vihar in Kusumkheda area. The couple live alone in the house as they have no children. The husband runs a general store in the area. It is being stated that as usual, he left for the shop on Tuesday morning while his wife was alone at home. As per their routine, Anita Rautela used to cook lunch at 12 PM and then go and manage the shop while her husband used to eat lunch at home. When his wife didn’t come to the shop after 12 PM, Rautela first called her on the phone repeatedly without getting any response. He then locked the shop and went home where he found the main door bolted from outside. On entering the home he found the items scattered and blood splattered around. He then found his wife bloodied, injured and unconscious in the bathroom. On hearing his screams the neighbours gathered and helped take the injured woman to a private hospital on Kaladhungi Road.

Meanwhile, on learning of the violent crime, police officers including superintendent of police (City) Amit Srivastav, circle officer Dinesh Dhaundiyal, dog squad and other officers reached the scene of the crime. City magistrate Pankaj Upadhyay also reached the site.

Though the police checked the place with a dog squad too for clues, sources aver that nothing substantial was found at the scene of crime.
