Offending vehicle came from the opposite side: police

A Class XI student was killed while his friend was injured after their two-wheeler collied with a truck in Rohini’s Alipur on Tuesday afternoon, the police said.

The accused driver is absconding.

Enroute home

The deceased has been identified as Tanishk (16) and the injured boy as Naveen, both students of DAV Public School and residents of Alipur, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta.

They were on the way home from school on a scooty when the incident happened around 3 p.m., the police said.

“The students were on a two-wheeler. The truck was coming from the opposite side when the two vehicles collided,” Mr. Gupta said.

Tanishk, who was riding the scooty, was flung a few metres ahead before falling on the road, sources said, adding that Naveen fell on the other side.

Following the accident, the driver of the truck bearing an Uttar Pradesh number fled the spot. “Tanishk was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Naveen is undergoing treatment at Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital. He is out of danger,” the officer said.

Case registered

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered and teams formed nab the accused, the police said.
