NEW DELHI: A
four-year-old girl was
rescued from
Rajasthan four days after she went
missing from outside her house in
Bharat Nagar, northwest Delhi. A
woman was
arrested along with her
live-in partner.
The two had conspired to kidnap a child and then raise him/her as their own. The couple had been living together for three years and the man wanted to have a child but couldn’t as he had undergone a vasectomy operation.
Police said they were informed on Friday night by the girl’s mother that she was missing. She had shifted to Delhi two years ago and started living at Wazirpur with her seven children after her husband’s death. The kidnapped girl was the youngest.
DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said a team led by SHO Sharat Chandra Nirmal was immediately formed. There was no CCTV footage or any other lead. Police looked for the girl everywhere and even put her posters up, but in vain.
On the second day, the police learnt that a woman who lived in that locality 10 years ago and had moved from there had come to meet the mother.
When the police asked her about it, she said that woman was an old friend who had got divorced three years ago and had been living with another man who had had a vasectomy operation but wanted a child desperately. The police suspected a link and started tracking this woman. She was identified as Baby and her partner as Banwari. Police found the girl at her house in Rajasthan.
The two were arrested and the girl brought back to Delhi and returned to her mother.
