Students and teachers are on a warpath seeking solution to their pending problems.
Tuesday witnessed separate protests by teacher and student organisations that condemned the State apathy to the issues directly related to their welfare.
At Lenin Centre, students led by leaders of the Progressive Democratic Student Union (PDSU) staged a dharna protesting against what they called ‘failure’ of the government to address the issue of unemployment. Pointing to the fact that there were 2.12 lakh vacant posts in the State, the leaders demanded immediate steps to fill them.
The Union’s State president A. Ravichandra accused the government of whiling away precious time. He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised jobs to the youth failing which, he said he would grant unemployment allowance. But neither of the two things had happened. Taking exception to the delay in release of the DSC notification, he said the Finance Department was said to have sought certain clarifications before giving its nod.
Alleging irregularities in allocation of BC seats in the medical counselling, he said the Government must stop the counselling process and order re-conduct as per GO 550.

Teachers resent arrests
Meanwhile, leaders of Progressive Democratic Front, a forum of AP Legislative Council Independent Members, condemned arrest of teachers who were staging a protest to press for their demand that the students of State-run schools be given uniforms and textbooks immediately.
They said the teachers were being forced to give an undertaking in writing that they would not go to Vijayawada. Police had taken control of all the offices of the teacher unions, said PDF floor leader V. Balasubramanyam, deputy floor leader Boddu Nageswara Rao and MLCs M. Srinivasulu Reddy and R. Suryarao in a joint statement.
