AGRA: A month after six college students and a teacher were mowed down on
Agra-Lucknow Expressway in UP's Kannauj district’s Tirwa area, another deadly accident in the same area killed eight persons, including three women and a child. Three persons, including two children, were injured.
The accident occurred at around 4am near Banpura village milestone 187 of Tirwa police jurisdiction on Wednesday.
According to police, the victims hailed from Alwar district of Rajasthan and were heading towards Naimisharanya in
Sitapur district in a hired SUV to take holy dip.
Shailendra Kumar Mishra, the additional inspector of Tirwa, said, “The accident occurred when the speeding SUV ferrying the victims rammed into the rear of a truck. The impact of the accident was so severe that it took us nearly half an hour to extract the victims from the mangled car.”
By the time this report was filed, police sent victims' bodies for post-mortem and managed to identify six victims. While out of the three injured, two were sent medical college of Tirwa and one injured kid was referred to Kanpur government hospital.
The victims were identified as Raju, Khayli Ram, Rajendar, Shalu, Vidya Devi and Santosh. All the victims hailed from one family.
According to police, the SUV driver Papu Kumar Yadav, fortunately, survived the accident and was conscious but in deep trauma.
A recent RTI reply revealed that from August 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018, as many as 853 accidents were reported to police from the expressway in which 100 people died. The freeway was inaugurated on December 23, 2016 and toll services were started from January 19 this year.
