Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age

How can I make my relationship with my boyfriend more romantic? We go out to dinner a lot and spend a lot of time together, but it doesn't feel romantic. The idea of romance is subjective, and shouldn't come from romantic comedies, because that's when we often try and convince ourselves that what we have isn't good enough. If you both enjoy each other's company and love talking about anything and everything under the sun, you're in a good place. Don't try and force things. Also, ask your boyfriend if he feels the same way. His answer may surprise you. I am a 52-year old married man with a 7-year old daughter and a 45-year old wife. My wife suddenly lost interest in love, romance and sex. The atmosphere at home is very unhealthy, so we live apart and meet just once a month, even though we talk daily. Please advise me on what I should do before we split forever.

This is entirely up to you and your wife. If the two of you have problems with each other, it is only the two of you who can try and save your marriage by bringing in a professional and talking about things that ought to have been discussed a long time ago. If you have tried speaking to a counsellor and that hasn't worked, it is also up to you and your wife to understand that there is a child involved, and that your decisions can have a very profound impact on her growth and development. I'm not sure how I can help unless the two of you sit down and have an honest conversation about what you want from this marriage and for the future. If you both decide that this is not going to work, maybe you can arrive at a compromise that, at the very least, tries to minimise the effect of your broken marriage on your daughter. Also recognise the financial and other repercussions of your eventual decision.
