KENDRAPARA:  Unleashing a reign of terror in Kendrapara district and other parts of the State, gangster Tito allegedly did not even spare freedom fighters who sacrificed their all for the country’s independence. Family members of Indian National Army (INA) soldier and physician, late Sk Asadulla of Kendrapara, have accused Tito of usurping his house and land at Badahat village within Kendrapara town limits.

Sk Amiulla (66), son of the INA veteran, alleged that Tito, who enjoyed political patronage, had forcibly occupied the ancestral house and land covering an area of 12 decimals at Badahat belonging to his father 10 years back. Although police complaints were filed then, no action was taken. Tito’s gang members also threatened to kill the family members following which they shifted to Cuttack.

Amiulla urged the Special Task Force of Crime Branch to help him get back the ancestral property. “As police launched a crackdown to unearth all the ill gotten money and other movable and immovable properties of Tito, we are hopeful of getting our property back,” he said.Kendrapara SDPO Rajiv Lochan Panda said, police have not yet received any complaint from Dr Asadulla’s family in this regard. Action will be taken on getting the complaint. Dr Asadulla, after clearing his MBBS, had joined as a medical officer in government hospital at Balasore and subsequently posted in Ganjam and Puri. In 1940, he was transferred to Calcutta and during the Second World War in 1942 he was drafted in as a doctor in British Army in Malay (now Malaysia) to treat injured soldiers.

However, he was captured by the Japanese army along with many British soldiers when Japan attacked and took over Malaysia the same year. His rescue came in the shape of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose himself, who as an ally of the Japanese, called upon all Indian prisoners to join INA and fight against British for the sake of India’s independence. Dr Asadulla joined INA and worked as a doctor for three years till he was again arrested by British in 1944. He was jailed in Multan (now in Pakistan) from 1944 to 1946.He was released from the jail on May 1, 1946 after the British decided to leave India. He breathed his last on December 24,1972.
