The dramatic form of “Tapaswini” written by Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher kept hundreds of audience spellbound for hours together on Monday night in the Aranyak Mandap of the city.

“Tapaswini” is one of the most adorable literary creations of Gangadhar Meher based on the Ramayan and particularly, Maa Sita and to make it more popular, simple and explicable, ‘Adrushya Natya Ashram’ made a novel endeavour to give it a dramatic form and present before the people.

“It is for the third time that the dramatic version was staged in Sambalpur which made a beginning in Bargarh,” informed director of the drama Atish Kumar Tripathy.

He narrated the hurdles he and his team faced to convert the great literary work to dramatic form and the vital role that Ashok Bahidar of Padmapur played for it.

The drama mainly describes the relation between man and nature and their interdependence.

At the same time, it also narrates the strength, courage and vanity of a lady i.e. Maa Sita who after abandoned by Ramachandra, her husband, managed to bring up her children in a Rushi Ashram with proper education and military training.

“For this purpose, the Union Ministry of Culture has extended financial support to Adrushya Natya Ashram.

This drama will be displayed in different parts of the State including the national capital too.

We further plan to stage it in Rabindra Mandap at Bhubaneswar on the day of Gangadhar Jayanti,” Tripathy informed.

Participating as guests of the evening, MLA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, Collector Samarth Verma, IAS probationer Ajay Patil and SMC Commissioner Bimalendu Ray highly praised the organisers to give Tapaswini a different and more attractive form.
