Coimbatore: Three idols worth over Rs 30,000 were stolen from a temple at Payaniyar Nagar near Virapandi Privu on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.
Temple priests had found the locks broke opened and idols of Ganesha, Natraja and Sivakami Ammaiyar missing on Wednesday morning. A small hundi was also missing.

All the idols were new, a police officer said. “The idols do not have the sufficient amount of gold that needs to be in panchaloha idols. They were recognized as metal idols,” he said.

Fingerprint experts inspected the temple premises. Police have collected CCTV footage from the place.

Periyanaickenpalyam police have registered a case under Section 445 (house breaking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are investigating the incident.
