Indore: Several congressmen staged protest at Dwarkapuri police station against rise in crimes against women on Tuesday. They also demanded strict action against the accused who were arrested in connection with the suicide case of minor girl. Later, they handed over a memorandum to ADG Ajay Kumar Sharma in this regards.
Congressmen led by Archana Jaiswal and Pramod Tandon including family members of victim and residents gathered at the police station where they protested against the incident in which a minor girl committed suicide after being harassed by a youth. Even police did not take the matter seriously when the victim reached police station to lodged FIR.
After the protest at police station, Congressmen reached ADG office and handed over a memorandum to ADG Sharma who said a departmental inquiry has been ordered and the investigation is on into the case.
Congress leader Pamod Tandon said that crimes against women like molestation, eve teasing, rapes are rising in the city. The incident in which a girl named Gayatri committed suicide after being harassed by a youth, is shameful for the city. Congressmen demanded action against the accused in such cases and handed over a memorandum to ADG.
Congress leader Archana Jaiswal told mediapersons that police should be serious towards crime against women. The complaint of the girl, who committed suicide, was not taken seriously by the policemen of Dwarkapuri police station due to which she took an extreme step.
