FALL RIVER — Two police officers executed a felony stop on a 17-year-old juvenile carrying a loaded handgun near Father Travassos Park about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“They both challenged him,” Lt. Andrew Crook said, after they saw a bulge in his waistband and responded to reports of a juvenile carrying a firearm.

That meant Officers Tyler Paquette and Alyssa Dailey drew their guns on the teenager, had him drop to his knees with his hands behind his back and an officer removed the gun.

The gun was a .40-caliber Glock 22, Crook said. It had not been fired.

The location was on Dean Street in the Flint near the water park, where dozens of young children play on summer days, particularly on a hot one in the 90s like Tuesday.

The 17-year-old, whom Crook said lives in the South and was visiting family in Fall River, is charged with carrying a large capacity firearm and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place.

He’s being held at a juvenile lockup on $10,000 cash bail, pending his expected arraignment Wednesday at the Bristol County Juvenile Court in Fall River.

Police were conducting a search warrant of the premises he was living and additional charges are expected, Crook said.
