India needs 8L plastic engineers: Ananth Kumar

The Union Minister for Chemicals and fertilizers Anant Kumar and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Doiwala on Tuesday. The duo also laid the foundation stone of an ultra modern CIPET building on the occasion. The CIPET Doiwala would be 32 such institute in the country and first in Uttarakhand and it would be set up with an estimated cost Rs 40 Crore on a 10 acre of land. A Skill Development and Technical Support Center (CSTS) was also inaugurated in the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister Ananth Kumar said that at present there is a demand of eighth lakh plastic engineers in the country. Similarly, the demand of plastic engineers in the whole world is very huge. Comparing CIPET with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the Union Minister claimed the students here would get 100 percent campus placements. He said that the institute would give training to 1500, 2500 and 3000 youth in the first, second and third year respectively. Kumar added that plan to start B Tech course is the plastic engineering is also on the anvil.

Terming the day as historic for Uttarakhand,  CM Rawat said that the youngsters of the State would get employment opportunities from newly established CIPET in Doiwala.  He added that 85 percent of the seats of the institute would get filled from the students of Uttarakhand. Rawat opined that the establishment of such centres help in developing local economics both directly and indirectly as thousands of people get benefited from them.

He said that the State Government under its Vision- 2020 for Uttarakhand is working on skill development of one lakh youth and set up 200 start-ups in the state.

The Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, BJP State President Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Higher Education Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Harbans Kapoor, Union Secretary P Raghavendra Rao, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary Manisha Panwar, Director General (DG) of CIPET SK Nayak and others were present on the occasion.
