The spokesman said that during SP regime headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav, BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai was shot dead. He alleged that instead of siding with the victims, the then SP regime was more inclined towatds protecting murder accused Mokhtar Ansari and his cohorts.  Tripathi said that BSP MLA from Allahabad Raju Pal was also shot dead during the Mulayam Singh regime and the government protected murder accused Atiq Ahmed. The BJP leader said that the close nexus of the SP with the mafia was exposed the day Yogi government introduced ‘UP Organized Crime Control Bill’ in the Assembly. He said that the SP along with Congress and BSP had opposed the Bill in the Assembly. Tripathi said that the people of the state were well aware that the SP always protected criminals and the ongoing drive against mafia and lawlessness has unnerved top echelons of the SP. He said under Yogi government, criminals instead of seeking bail were seeking to go to jail and 1,400 encounters have unleashed a reign of terror among criminals. He said that the enforcement campaign against criminals by the UP Police would continue.
