NABARD sanctions Rs 373.27 cr for piped drinking water projects

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Jharkhand has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 373.27 Crore to the Government of Jharkhand, under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), towards construction of 12 Rural Piped Drinking Water Supply Projects across nine districts of the State.

The Drinking Water and Sanitation Department will implement the projects. The major items of capital investment include construction of Intake wells, Pumping machinery/ electrical works, Raw Water Pipe Lines, Water treatment plant, Clear Water Pipe Lines, Grounded and/ or Elevated Service Reservoir, Distribution Network etc.

NABARD’s assistance towards the 12 RPDWS projects would help facilitate assured supply of safe drinking water to approximately 500 villages across nine districts in Jharkhand. Most of the villages covered under the said projects, presently don’t have any piped drinking water supply. The population therein is expected to increase from approximately 4.40 lakh (at present) to around 8 lakh by the year 2049.

These projects are designed to cater to the projected water demand. The targeted minimum supply level in each project is 70 Litres per Capita per Day (LPCD). The design period for each of these projects is 30 years. These projects are expected to generate over 64 lakh Mandays of non-recurring employment.

Besides rural households, the piped drinking water shall also be supplied to schools, hospitals, Aanganwadi centres, panchayat and other government offices under the project area”.
