KOCHI: Tourists visiting the state will soon be able to enjoy the glory of major tourist destinations, the state’s art and cultural forms in Virtual Reality.

The KTDC has decided to explore Virtual Reality (VR) to push Kerala tourism in new and exciting ways to engage tourists by setting up exclusive Virtual Reality centres. The KTDC has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from agencies specialised in the development of VR for developing and delivering such content for major tourist destinations, art forms of Kerala and KTDC properties.

KTDC Marketing Manager G S Rajmohan said the corporation has decided to go for VR to attract more tourists. “We have invited expert agencies to submit their proposals on implementing virtual reality and augmented reality service for KTDC. Currently, the project is in the nascent stage as more modalities need to be finalised for implementing it,” he said.

He said the corporation would also consider the VR centres to be equipped with latest technology, which includes advanced VR Goggles, to provide real time experience to the tourists.

“Many tourists do not get a chance to enjoy live performances of our art forms. Apart from giving virtual experience of our major tourists destinations, the tourists will be able to get a feel of the art forms through VR centres. As per the plan, the centres are likely to come up in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram,” he said.
KTDC officers said the Virtual Reality has come a long way in brand building and attracting customers.
