McLaren 720S Finally Gets To Have Its Tesla Model S P100D Battle

Despite the recent arrival of the McLaren Senna a d the new 600LT, it’s the 720S that remains the British marque’s most impressive model when it comes to embarrassing other cars in a straight line.

We watched it dispatch pretty much everything from the Demon to a tuned Porsche 911 Turbo or a 930 HP Nissan GT-R. Not even a BMW S1000RR superbike was enough to beat the 720S, which means the Tesla definitely has its work cut out.

Off the line, the Model S P100D is pretty formidable. Put it in Ludicrous mode and you can take off as fast as just about anything else on this planet – the problem is building on that momentum as you get closer to the 1/4 mile mark.

The two cars ran against each other multiple times, yielding the same result over and over, as the 720S would not be denied once it got up to speed. Its amazing aerodynamic features are simply too much to overcome, even when its opponents are considerably more powerful.

In the end, while the Tesla Model S P100D is a 10-second car when it comes to the 1/4 mile, the McLaren 720S, which allegedly has a lot more than just 720 horses under the hood, can cover the same distance in the 9’s, just like a Porsche 918 Spyder or a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
