BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru police have arrested four persons for allegedly blackmailing Sringeri Shivaganga Mutt administrator and demanding Rs 15 crore.

According to a complaint lodged by administrator Srinivas Rao, the mutt had sold 208 acres of land in Bengaluru Rural district for Rs 40,200 in 1965 but an earlier administrator, NL Narasimhaiah, misused the GPA given to him by the mutt seer and filed a case against the purchaser that the land belonged to the mutt.
However, the mutt head later told a court that the land had been sold to the purchaser, who gave away Rs 20 crore donation to the mutt last year.
Narasimhaiah demanded a share of Rs 15 crore from the purchaser’s donation and threatened the new administrator, Srinivas Rao, that he had documents pertaining to mutt lands and would misuse it.

Acting on Rao’s complaint, CCB has arrested NL Narasimhaiah, Mahesh Sharma, T R Anand and Krishna, all residents of Girinagar. Another accused Mruthyunjaya is absconding.
