The wife of the construction company director who shot himself last week on Tuesday accused a senior Gurugram police officer for her husband’s death and demanded his immediate arrest.
Meets Commissioner
Contractor Vinod Sharma’s wife Meenu Sharma, a resident of DLF Phase-V, met Police Commissioner K.K. Rao in his office on Tuesday afternoon.
She alleged in a written complaint that Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahender Sethi was responsible for her husband’s death.
Accusing the police of trying to shield the officer, Ms. Sharma stated in her complaint that she had given a statement seeking action against Mr. Sethi on Sunday but the police registered a First Information Report against a Delhi businessman based on her husband’s suicide note.
Mr. Rao told The Hindu that he had marked an inquiry into the complaint to the DCP (East).
However, the Police Commissioner denied that the police had received a complaint in this regard earlier.
No response
Mr. Sethi did not respond to repeated phone calls and a text message for a comment.
Ms. Sharma said Mr. Sethi and three other men had come to her husband on July 2 demanding ₹3.26 crore and asked him to pay the first instalment of ₹50 lakh on July 4. Ms. Sharma said her husband was stressed and shot himself on July 4.
Seeking the officer’s immediate arrest, Ms. Sharma said she will hold an indefinite dharna outside the Police Commissioner’s Office if action is not initiated against Mr. Sethi within 24 hours. Demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in the matter, Ms. Sharma said she had no faith in the Haryana Police.
The 59-year-old contractor had shot himself twice in the chest in his Sector 57 office on July 4. He had accused Devender Lakra, a resident of Delhi’s Mundka, and his family for his death. He died at a private hospital four days later.
