The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave the green signal for the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) to continue with players who are registered with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

Outstation players shall be allowed to play subject to the permission granted by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), the court directed.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud said the association should “scrupulously” follow an advisory sent out by the Committee of Administrators (CoA)on July 5 on the tournament.

The court recorded the statement made by senior advocate Parag Tripathi, for the CoA, that “subject to the above compliance, the CoA grants its permission for the tournament”.

With just days to go for the third edition of the TNPL, the TNCA had moved the Supreme Court for clarifications on the legality of the participation of outstation players in the tournament.

The TNCA has been trying to get outstation players since the first edition and finally the BCCI in its SGM last month cleared the way for outstation players to play in the domestic leagues conducted by State associations. However, the CoA had deemed the SGM ‘null and void.’
