PUNE: Akshay Balasaheb Jori was murdered by his friend, Sushant Ombale, following a quarrel over the latter’s relationship with a girl.
In his complaint, Jori’s father alleged that the spat had taken place a few days ago. “Ombale was angry with Jori for spilling the beans about his affair to his parents,” a police officer said.
Around 8.30pm on Monday, Jori told his parents that Ombale had again quarrelled with him over the same issue. “He, however, said they had settled the matter and that he was going out to party,” the officer said. Jori’s father noticed Ombale and three other friends waiting for his son in a car.
Around 4.30am on Tuesday, Jori’s father was woken up by a call from his brother-in-law, who informed him that his son was seriously injured and had been admitted to a private hospital on Paud Road. “By the time the father reached the hospital, Jori had died,” he said.
According to the police, Jori, Ombale and the two other friends were drinking at the flat of another friend, Ashish Pokale, in Kalagram-II housing society near
Chandni chowk. “In the early hours of Tuesday, Jori and Ombale again quarrelled over the same issue. The friends intervened and sent Ombale home,” the officer said.
However, around 4am, Ombale returned to the flat with his brother and Mestri.
“Ombale barged in, picked up an empty beer bottle, smashed it and slashed Jori’s throat,” the officer said. Pokale and other friends rushed a bleeding Jori to hospital, but it was too late.
