Following the Supreme Court order, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has started sending notice to those who have encroached the Government land, asking them to remove the unauthorised structures. The civic body officers said that some notices have already been sent while the rest would be sent soon.

As per the Supreme Court order which modified the High Court orders on clearing the city of the squatters, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun must issue notice to the encroachers before the demolition drive is launched. As per the apex court order, three weeks would be given to the persons  for submitting replies to the notice. If the replies are unsatisfactory,  the officers concerned would pull down the unauthorised structures standing on the public space.

Speaking about  the matter, an MCD official said that the process of sending on, around 100 notices have been sent so far. “MCD is now readying more notices to be sent  to the encroachers. The second step of the process is to hold hearing.

The hearing will be conducted by the concerned authorities to hear out the opinions of the persons concerned and also to verify the documents to be submitted. If the persons fail to prove their points we would pull down the unauthorised structures standing on the Government land,” he said.

According to the sources, over 10 thousand notices have been issued to the people who have encroached Government land from Rispana to Bindal.
