Thane: One person died and five others were injured after an overloaded truck upturned on an auto rickshaw which was ferrying four passengers at Kongaon, Bhiwandi. The police said that the truck driver lost control because of the potholed road. The auto rickshaw driver, who jumped out of his running vehicle when he saw the truck swerving, sustained minor injuries. However, one of his passengers was killed while the other three were injured.

Assistant Police Inspector Narendra Pawar, Kongaon Police Station said the incident was caused by two factors — potholes and the truck being overloaded. Both vehicles were heading for Bhiwandi from Kalyan. The deceased has been identified as Haseen Hanif Shaikh. A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act.
