The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed status quo be maintained with regard to appointments to the post of high school headmasters.
A Division bench of Justices M. Duraiswamy and Anita Sumanth, who heard the petition, posted the case for further hearing after four weeks.
The petitioner, M. Jesudaspandian, working at a government higher secondary school in Tirunelveli, said he was seeking promotion to the post of headmaster. However, the Director of School Education had called for eligible candidates – both BT Assistants and PG Assistants – for the post of headmasters. PG Assistants were appointed by way of transfer of service from BT Assistants.
If they were also included in the list it would be difficult for BT Assistants to be appointed to the post, he claimed.
