ALLAHABAD: A single judge bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday declined to pass order for a CBI probe into the murder of gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi inside Baghpat district jail on July 9.
Rejecting the request, justice Saumitra Dayal Singh asked the counsel of the petitioner to take up the issue before an appropriate forum.

According to the counsel Swati Agarwal, she had moved a petition on behalf of Bajrangi on May 16 seeking adequate security for him.

An apprehension was raised in the petition that Bajrangi might be killed any time on way to court for ‘peshi’ (appearance). Even as the petition was pending, Bajrangi was killed inside the Baghpat jail.

On Wednesday, when the petition was taken up before the judge, Agarwal informed the court about the killing of Bajrangi and made a request to direct a CBI probe into the matter.

The court declined the request and directed that the petition seeking security for Bajrangi has become infructuous as he is no more.

Incidentally, only a division bench can entertain a petition seeking direction for CBI probe and can pass appropriate directives.
