Upside down forks will now be available for suspension duties and brake callipers will be radially mounted
Reports are coming in that the Yamaha YZF-R25 is all set for an overhaul. Motorcycle scoop generator Young Machine says that the bike is ready to receive a slew of changes, visually as well as mechanically. We do not receive the R25 here in India, but we do get the R3, which is based on the same platform.
In terms of design, Yamaha seems to be basing their motorcycles on the R1. We saw the same treatment with the YZF-R15 v3 and it is likely the R3 and R25 will follow suit. We expect to see LED headlights, a vented tail and a racier fairing.
Don’t expect a major change to the frame of the bike, but some elements could see an upgrade. Upside down forks will now be available for suspension duties and brake calipers will be radially mounted. Also, the rear monoshock could be a linkage-type compared to the direct-mount which is available right now.
Mechanically, both bikes could get Yamaha's Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), which means more torque in the lower rpm range. Currently, the R3 uses a 321 cc liquid cooled single-cylinder producing 42 Ps and 29.6 Nm mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Disc brakes, both in the front and the rear, along with ABS will come standard.
