BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was booked by the UP police on Thursday following nationwide furore over rape allegations levelled by a 17-year-old minor in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, was taken into custody by the CBI from his Lucknow residence in the wee hours of Friday.

As per the investigation, the rape happened between 7 and 8 pm on June 4, 2017.

Last week, the investigating agency had filed its first chargesheet in which it had named five accused, including Sengar's brother, Jai Deep Singh + alias Atul Singh Sengar.

In its first chargesheet, the agency had charged the accused of murder and other related offences, according to a CBI spokesperson.

A 17-year-old girl had alleged that she was raped by Bangermau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of the BJP at his residence when she had gone to meet him with a relative seeking a job last year.

Her father was allegedly abused and beaten up by the accused in front of his house, resulting in grievous injuries. He was also slapped with the Arms Act by the local police and put in jail where he succumbed to injuries in the absence of treatment on April 8 this year.

During the investigation, all the accused named in the FIR were arrested and they are at present in judicial custody.
