Anand Janarathanan, a resident of the Northern side of the 13th Main Road, said that the snail’s pace of the work has been causing a lot of inconveniences. “The Metro Water had dug up the road to put sewer lines. We have been repeatedly asking the Corporation to relay the road after the completion of the work. Recently, they milled half of the road and relayed that part while the rest of the road remained untouched,” he said. 

“Officials said that they have not been able to proceed due to lack of funds. It looks like this is not their priority. They have been telling us they will relay it later,” he added. Anand also pointed out that a part of the same stretch has been relayed, as contractors were paid by the residents near the stretch.

The residents said that dug up roads cause immense inconvenience to residents and commuters alike, given the volume of traffic the road sees. “This is the most used road in the locality as it is dotted with shops on both sides. We have a hard time as we have to drive carefully to negotiate the uneven road. After the road was dug up, the streets look very narrow and we have to wait even if a car passes by in the opposite direction. The tyres of our vehicles are also damaged because of this,” said Viji S, another resident of 13th Main Road who has been staying in the locality for more than two years now. 

A senior official from the zone said that it could be because of a delay in getting no-objection certificate from the CMWSSB. “We will look into the problem and sort it at the earliest,” said the official.
