Attempt to bury a teenage suicide victim in front of the house of the boy she was in love with in the neighbouring village led to tension, forcing the police to intervene and bring the situation under control.
Eighteen-year-old teenager from Lakkampally under Nandipet police station limits, Gangalatha, set herself ablaze on Monday as she felt cheated by Gangadhar of neighbouring village Talweda, who she was in love with.
Hearing her screams her uncle Ravi and neighbours Lasumbai and Tenugu Tanoba rushed to her rescue and shifted her to Government General Hospital where she later succumbed to her burns. Quoting the statement of the victim recorded at the hospital, Sub-Inspector of Police Santosh Kumar said the girl said she took the extreme step as she was vexed with personal problems.
The SI said she and Gangadhar wanted to get married and had reportedly eloped once earlier. However, it is not known immediately as to what transpired between the two, which led the girl to take the extreme step.
The police are yet to question Gangadhar. A case has been registered. After post-mortem, her body was handed over to her parents and the funeral was performed, the SI said.
