The district administrations of Nizamabad and Kamareddy are all set to implement the 4th round of Haritha Haram programme in a missionary mode keeping ready the required number of saplings and getting dug pits for raising big plants and tree guards.
They did a laborious exercise with frequent meetings and reviews all these days. They are waiting for the date of announcement for commencing the flagship programme.
In all, in the two districts 3.34 crore saplings would be planted to fulfil the target of 2.02 crore in Nizamabad district and 1.32 crore in Kamareddy. Saplings have been raised in 294 nurseries - 161 and 133 respectively.
District Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao asked the officials of all departments to take the responsibility of pitting, planting, estimate generation and protection of saplings. Officials of Education Department must entrust the responsibility of planting six saplings on each student and plant them on the empty places on the premises of public and private educational institutions.
Expenses of pit digging and watering plants would be allotted from the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) fund and if anyone involved in that activity faces difficulties he or she must inform the District Rural Development Officer. There is still scope for appointing some more green brigadiers. Volunteers, students, youth organisations and the EGS staff would take an active part and action would be initiated against those officers who could not fulfil targets, said the Collector.
Plantation would be undertaken in a big way on either side of the road from Nizamabad to Dichpally; Nizamabad to Bodhan upto Salura; Nizamabad to Armoor; Armoor to Kamarpally; and Armoor to Balkonda.
Kamareddy Collector N. Satyanarayana said the Haritha Haram programme would be implemented on a missionary mode involving all sections of society for 15 days.
All private and public institutions would be covered and “vanams” would be raised in an area of three acres in the selective places and each would be adopted by an officer.
Though the target is 1.32 crore plants 1.50 crore were kept ready in 133 nurseries and another 10 lakh are also being raised to supply on emergency basis. Expressing the hope for the grand success of the programme, he said except for two mandals Tadwai and Biknoor remaining 20 mandals recorded normal rainfall this year.
Seven received excess rainfall and eight normal. Overall, 22% excess rainfall recorded. Over 38 lakh plants grown to a height of 6 feet would be used for avenue plantations, he added.
