Vadodara: On June 25, when rain pounded the city, two men offered to help an elderly woman resident of Akota starting her scooter, which had stalled on a flooded road near Chakli Circle. When the scooter sputtered back to life, the duo pushed 72-year-old Sushila Kulve and zoomed off with it. While the incident occurred last month, police registered a complaint of cheating against two unidentified persons at Gotri police station on Tuesday.
According to Kulve’s complaint, when she was riding towards Old Padra Road from Ellora Park at 3.30pm on June 25, her scooter stalled due to waterlogging near Chakli Circle. One of the accused offered to help start her vehicle. When he was trying to start the vehicle, the other accused arrived. When the vehicle started, the second man pushed her and the duo fled with her vehicle, Kulve told the police.
Kulve and her daughter went to Gotri police station to register a complaint on the same day. However, police did not register a case. “The police official told us they would first try to find the vehicle and that we should also look for the vehicle. We returned to the police station a week later but were told that we would get a call from the police station,” Chauhan told TOI.
The complainant returned to the police station on Tuesday on receiving the call. “On reaching there we were asked if we really wanted to register a case as the scooter is around two decades old. It was only after we pressed them did the register a case,” she said.
The investigation is handled by a head constable, who doesn’t even know much besides the basic details.
