Assault on grama panchayat member: One arrested

KOCHI: The Perumbavur police have arrested a 30-year-old for attacking a grama panchayat member last month.

Shefin, of Cherakkakudi, Vengola, was arrested for unleashing an attack on Rayamangalam grama panchayat member Base Paul on June 16. According to the officers, the accused assaulted the victim who came to a food court in Perumbavur with his friends, alleging Base ’s vehicle was overspeeding and it overtook the scooter of the accused.

The gram a panchayat member sustained severe injuries on his spine. Shefin had gone into hiding after the incident. The accused was later produced before the court.
