ADILABAD: In yet another incident of a new born baby being stolen, an infant was stolen by a couple from RIMS hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday. However, with the police acting fast and sealing the border areas, the baby was rescued within four hours.

According to SP Vishnu S Warrier, the couple who had stolen the baby have been identified as Soyam Nagesh and Pushpalatha. They were apprehended when they were trying to escape with the baby in a vehicle transporting newspapers.

Neeradigonda SI G Harishekhar, who along with his team was conducting checking,  found a woman moving suspiciously and took her into custody. The woman was taken to RIMS, where the parents D Ganesh and Mamtha confirmed that it was their baby.

Mamtha had given birth to a baby boy on July 4. On July 10, while she was sleeping at the hospital delivery ward, the accused took away the baby between 2 to 3.30 am. The woman along with Soyam Nagesh went to the bus stand and hopped on to a vehicle. However, police foiled their attempt and caught them at Neeradigonda, while they were on their way to Nirmal.

Later, when Mamatha woke up, she did not find the baby in the bed and searched for the infant in the hospital. Upon finding no whereabouts of the baby, RIMS outpost police was informed around 4 am. SP Vishnu S Warrier alerted all the border police stations and during checking at Neeradigonda, the sub-inspector and his team identified the woman with an infant.

The woman was arrested and brought to the hospital. The accused belongs to Dasnapur colony of Adilabad town. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the couple had stolen the baby because they did not have one.
