What’s on TV tonight? England vs. Croatia, Picnic at Hanging Rock and Falling Down
The Week rounds up the best picks for this evening’s television

BBC Two's new period drama Picnic at Hanging Rock
Tonight England has the opportunity to reach the World Cup final for the first time since 1966. Gareth Southgate’s team go head to head with Croatia at 7pm on ITV. Mark Pougatch presents coverage from the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, with the winner playing France on Sunday.
Picnic at Hanging Rock, a new period drama based on Joan Lindsay's 1967 mystery novel, begins at 9.05pm on BBC Two. Three students and a teacher from a school for young ladies in Australia disappear during a Valentine’s Day picnic in 1900. Natalie Dormer and Samara Weaving star.
Meanwhile, from 10pm to 1am, Channel 5 lifts the lid on drug users and suppliers in a three-part documentary Britain’s Cocaine Epidemic.
Tonight’s best film recommendation is Falling Down (1992) on ITV4 at 11pm. Michael Douglas stars as a stressed motorist who cracks under the pressure of life in Joel Schumacher's thought-provoking urban thriller. “Taking in the length and breadth of the city of Los Angeles, the film itself is spookily in tune with the thoughts and feelings of the inhabitants at the time,” notes Den of Geek.
