Former Moga SSP Raj Jit Singh surrenders passport

Former Moga Senior Superintendent of Police Raj Jit Singh, against whom a look-out notice had been issued by Punjab Police Vigilance Bureau, on Monday surrendered his passport to the police here.

Last Saturday, the bureau had issued a look-out notice for the ex-Moga SSP in view of reports indicating that he may flee the country. He was required for questioning in connection with an FIR registered at Police Station Flying Squad, Vigilance Bureau.

A senior police official said that Singh surrendered his passport through a Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) rank officer to the Inspector General (Headquarters), Punjab police, in the morning here Besides, a letter was also submitted to the office of the Director General of Police (Administration) in which the former SSP said that he had no plans to visit abroad, the official said.

The FIR pertains to allegations against the dismissed Inspector Inderjit Singh, then posted in Tarn Taran, and Raj Jit, who was then SSP there, a police spokesman had said.

As per the FIR, some alleged drug smugglers had managed to get a clean chit in the chemical examination of certain drugs seized from them as a result of the complicity of the lab staff, the spokesman said.

It was also alleged that Inspector Inderjit, on receiving a tip-off, had called the said lab staff for questioning and instead of arresting the main accused Jagdeep Singh, had, in collusion with Raj Jit Singh, made him an approver in the case, the spokesman said.

There are allegations that money exchanged hands in the process, according to the spokesman.

Raj Jit is currently posted as commandant 4th battalion Mohali since his transfer out of Moga as SSP on July 2.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had last year ordered the setting up of the special investigation team (SIT) led by DGP Sidhharth Chattopadhyay to probe the role of Raj Jit Singh and a dismissed police inspector Inderjit Singh in the drug trafficking case.

In May this year, Chattopadhyay had submitted its report to the high court in relation to the alleged involvement of Raj Jit in the drug case.
