Cong president disbands city unit

Vadodara: The defeat in the byelection for Ward No.11 of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has led Congress city unit president Prashant Patel to disband the entire city unit executive committee and dismiss other office bearers. Patel was peeved by the lack of enthusiasm shown by office bearers in the bypoll.
The Congress fared miserably and this surprised the party which was expecting a good fight. While Patel, VMC opposition leader Chandrakant Shrivastava and others put in a strong effort, others did not do enough. This was in sheer contrast to the BJP camp. It was evident that the BJP organisation and workers saw the party through the bypoll.

Patel said that when several workers from ward president-level to city president-level were working hard, others did not join the effort. “We were to change the body anyway, as it has been in place for five years. We decided to do so now,” he added.

Patel pointed out that several party members worked hard despite not having any post in the party. “They work selflessly and we can give them posts and encourage them,” he said. Patel was among the unit presidents reappointed recently. He had thus far continued with the set-up of the city unit.
