KOCHI:SpotOn 2018, a national-level blogging-vlogging competition will be held as part of the Excel 2018, the annual national-level managerial fest of the Govt Model Engineering College. The event began on Monday.

According to the organisers, the event is being conducted in association with the Youth Ki Awaz (YKA), a UN-World Summit Youth Award winning platform. "The platform provides an arena for the youngsters to express their views and thoughts on various important issues," said Nithul Krishnan, the media relations manager for Excel 2018 and also a student.

The event will be conducted in two rounds, he added. "The two online rounds will be held over four months and aims at bringing out a new crop of blogger-vlogger, who are smart and versatile enough to handle both the media effectively. They should be able to put forth their idea to the public in the most persuasive manner and give an in-depth insight into the issue," said Nithul.

The competition is open for the age group between 18 to 25 years. "The event will be conducted in two phases. The first one consists of blogging. In this phase blog posts will be invited from the participants. A select 10 will be then asked to drop in their original video content as vlogs. These vlogs will be then uploaded online and the public will be asked to cast their votes. Voting will be open for 20 days," he said.
Awards will be given in separate categories, once all the phases are completed, based on the scores the participants have garnered in each round. "The best blogger-vlogger award will be presented to the participant who showcases an excellent performance in both blogging and vlogging," he added.

Besides, best blogger and best vlogger awards too will be given out. "All three winner will get a chance to work with Campus Watch, the media initiative of Youth Ki Awaaz. The best blogger-vlogger will also get a cash prize of `10,000, while the second and third best blogger and vlogger will win `5,000 each," said Nithul.
