HYDERABAD: In a shocking case of negligence, a Class-I student of government primary school was electrocuted at Bakaram Jagir village in Moinabad mandal on Monday. Seven-year-old Maheshwaram Shiva Kumar had joined the school just eight days ago. He reportedly came into contact with the earthing cable of a pole-mounted transformer located inside the school campus.
Electricity department officials have said that it was a single phase transformer and that the earthing could have happened due to an internal damage in the transformer. “The boy could have touched the ground earthing cable, because the area was wet due to rains he could have been electrocuted.” they said.
‘Why was there a transformer inside campus?’
However, parents of the boy and villagers alleged that electricity department is responsible for the incident. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and are investigating. Activists held school and electricity department officials responsible for allowing a transformer on campus. “This is totally the negligence of school and electricity department officials,” said NGO Balala Hakkula Sangham.
Krishna and Bhagyamma had migrated to Moinabad from Vikarabad in search of a livelihood. They had admitted their elder son Bharat to a private school in Class-IV. However, eight days ago, they admitted their younger son Shiva to a government school. On Monday, after lunch break, the school staff found the boy lying dead near an electric pole behind the school building. Villagers said the transformer was not fenced and no safety measures were taken, though it was lying inside the school campus.
