GURUGRAM: One of the most wanted criminals on the Gurugram police’s list of 14,
Kaushal — absconding since 2016 carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head — allegedly made a threat call to a former
Congress member, Dharmbeer
Dagar, whose brother was shot at on March 20 by some assailants, seeking ‘kharcha paani’ on Monday night.
An FIR has been lodged and Dagar has been given protection, police said on Tuesday.
According to sources, Kaushal had offered to join hands with Dagar as the former wanted to settle his scores with Jony, who was arrested for the attack on the leader’s brother.
Jony had earlier murdered a relative of Kaushal’s close aide Amit Dagar which became the reason behind their rivalry.
As per the complaint filed by Dagar, resident of Sector 43 and former
sarpanch of Naharpur Rupa village, Koshal
threatened to harm him and his entire family if he did not give him the money and make him his aide.
The call has raised concerns over gangs becoming active in the area again, said a police officer.
“I received a Whatsapp call at 9:09pm on Monday. The caller identified himself as Kaushal and a resident of Naharpur Rupa village. He asked me to give him money, but I told him that my business was not going well. He threatened me and my family,” Dagar said in his complaint.
Taking immediate cognizance, police provided security to the former village head and launched a manhunt for Kaushal.
An FIR was registered under sections 387 (
extortion), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC at Sushant Lok police station. “We have put the suspect’s phone number on surveillance and have alerted all crime units,” said Sumit Kuhar, DCP (crime), Gurugram.
Who is Kaushal?
Kaushal (37) became the biggest name in the crime world after the death of Sandeep Gadoli, Mahesh Attack and imprisonment of Binder Gujjar, who is now out on bail. In 2016, Kaushal was declared absconding after he jumped parole and a reward of Rs 25,000 was announced on his head. The son of a property dealer, Kaushal used to provide and fix submersible pumps before joining the crime world in 2014. Sources say, a land dispute with
gangster Sudesh alias Chhelu was the trigger for Kaushal to start a gang. Kaushal’s men shot dead Chhelu at Rajiv Chowk in 2006.
Kaushal resurfaced in news when Gadoli’s family approached him for help after Gadoli’s elimination by Gurugram police in 2016. To eliminate his rivals, Kaushal joined hands with the Rajesh Bharti gang. Bharti and his aides were recently killed in an encounter by Delhi Police.
