Sangrur: Four-member gang of drug peddlers busted

SANGRUR: The district police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a gang of four drug peddlers and recovered about 1kg heroin and 1,000 habit-forming drugs pills from their possession.

SSP MS Sidhu said acting on a tip off the cops carried out raids Dhrui segement of the district and arrested Avtar Singh, Jagtar Singh alias Bittu, Gurmeet Singh alias Chhinda and Rajinder Singh @ Bittu along with the narcotics.

Sidhu said the four persons, who were in an Alto car numbered HR20AZ 5141, were arrested near Manwala Link Road in Dhuri and 900g of heroin was recovered from their possession. On further search the cops also found that the accused were carrying 1,000 pills of habit-forming drugs which were also confiscated by the cops.

SSP said that it was for the first time in the district that the cops went further to confiscate other vehciles purchased by the accused from the proceeds of the crime. The cops took one alto car, two motorcycles, one double beds, a sofa, two fridge, two cooler, three washing machines, two LCDs, one TVs, 15 gas cylinders, three gassy stoves, two steel cabinets into their custody that were found at the peddler's hideout in Dhuri.

SSP Sidhu said during interrogation the arrested men revealed that Jagtar Singh alias Bittu and Avtar Singh had known to one African National, who lived in Uttam Nagar area of Delhi, from whom they would buy heroin that then supply the same to different states, including Punjab. Further interrogation revealed that the four accused had brought a total heroin worth Rs 11 lakh from the African National and were trying to sell the same at to make a profit of Rs 25 to 30 lakh.

He said this was not the first time that the gang had been able to bring in heroin from the African national, but earlier they bought small quantities of the amounts narcotics and this time they had bought 900g. The inquiries being carried out by the cops also revealed that the these smugglers had lockers in various banks, in which they would park their ill-gotten money.

He said that the accused were produced before a local court which sent them in police remand during which the interrogators would question them regarding the African national, who supplied the narcotics to them.
