BHUBANESWAR: The Railways has decided to turn this Rath Yatra into an occasion to highlight the steps taken by it to enhance passenger safety, punctuality of trains and cleanliness at the
Puri station, which falls under the jurisdiction of the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
The decision was taken at a meeting called by ECoR's general manager, Umesh Singh, here on Monday. While efforts will be made to keep the platforms, ticket counters, pilgrim complex and yards clean, the station will be lit up on the occasion.
Singh said, "The station must give a positive vibe to passengers coming to Puri during the state's biggest festival. Efforts will be made to ensure that sanitation and hygiene get the highest priority."
He also reviewed the security arrangements and crowd management by the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police at the station. More CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic points. The timely arrival and departure of trains will be monitored, he added.
This year, the ECoR has decided to run 184 special trains to handle the rush during Rath Yatra. It is also planning to run six more trains keeping the crowd in mind. For the first time, the ECoR will deploy a truck-mounted accident relief vehicle (road ARV) to reach any point at Puri station for relief and restoration work, in the event of an accident or any other emergency.
